2018 Janzen Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Our 2018 Janzen Napa Valley Cabernet presents an accessible cabernet, with impeccable vineyard sourcing and incredible value. Coming off a very small 2017 harvest, 2018 offered a great growing season and abundant yields. This allowed us to pick our grapes at optimal ripeness. Generous black and red fruits envelop the palate, with a rich mouthfeel giving way to silky tannins in the finish. We feel this vintage is built with ageability in mind, while offering great richness for those who prefer their cabs on the younger side.

This 100% varietal wine is made from Beckstoffer Heritage vineyards' fruit as well as the producer's own Cloudy's Vineyard. Juicy in black cherry and berry, with a hint of vanilla, it is powerfully built with underlying elegance and impressive integration.

Starting with the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Janzen Napa Valley, it offers a complex, medium to full-bodied style with loads of plum and currant fruits, notes of sandalwood, dried herbs, and spice, ripe, velvety tannins, and impressive length on the finish. It's incredibly well done and has plenty of richness yet also a solid sense of freshness and elegance.

Very keen on the cassis-like fruit of Cabernet but a little less potent and not quite as raucously ripe as its pricier mates, this wine exhibits a fine sense of layering with discreet notes of sweet soil and carefully laid-on oak in a neatly tailored mix. It is full without being in the least bit heavy and lingers nicely at the finish, and, if its tannins are noticeable, they are not so strident as to need any more than few years before they begin to ease.
