The Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard sits on the southern boundary of the Oakville AVA. This location on the Valley floor provides exceptional terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon. This site is one of Napa Valley oldest grape growing locations with its initial planting dating back to the late 1800’s. This opulent offering shows exceptional concentration without losing its finesse. Currants, loam and tobacco on the nose give way to a rich mouthfeel loaded with fruit. The wine has a firm and muscular finish. The 2017 vintage of this Cabernet should can be stashed in your cellar for another 15-20+ years.

While this valley floor vineyard doesn’t get the credit it deserves, it turns out some magical wines. The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Janzen Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard is a terrific success in this vintage. It displays a deep purple color as well as rocking notes of blackcurrants, chocolate, tobacco leaf, and loamy earth. Rich, full-bodied, and opulent on the palate, it has wonderful tannins (which aren't a given in this vintage), a terrific sense of elegance and purity, and a great finish. This beautiful 2017 is going to drink well for at least 15-20 years.
Wine Enthusiast, October 2020
This is an incredibly concentrated, powerfully built wine that is still in its youth, while also being soft and cohesively layered in dense black cherry and berry. Clove, vanilla and black pepper provide seasoning to the foundation of toasted oak and firm structured tannin. With more time for aging, it is well worth considering. Enjoy best from 2027–2030. Cellar Selection. —V.B.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine, August 2020
Smelling specifically of black and red currants with sweet oak to spare and a wine that shows a good deal of layering and fruity depth from the very first sniff, this one is weighty and well-structured with a slightly tighter palatal feel and is ever so slightly leaner in fruity muscle than its mates. Though not in the least abrasive, it is a tad drying at the finish thanks to its obvious tannins and needs a good five or six years of cellaring in which to fully bloom.
