Our estate vineyard sits on steep terrain high above the Valley floor. The rocky ground offers excellent drainage and lots of nutrients. These mountain vines work overtime to produce small berries with intense flavor. Our 2017 Cloudy’s offers an immediate aromatic reward with a very open and abundant bouquet of dark fruit, herbs and mocha. The black fruit awakens on the palate. Its rich mouthfeel with well-integrated tannins allows for youthful drinking, but this wine can easily stay in the cellar for a few years.
Wine Enthusiast, December 2020
From the producer's estate vineyard on the eastern side of the valley, this 100% varietal wine opens in a wealth of nutmeg, cinnamon and clove, giving it a spicy edge on the palate. Dark fruit, toasted oak and thick tannin wrap around each other in well-integrated layers of power and structure. V.B.

The From the estate vineyard on the east side of the valley, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Janzen Cloudy's Vineyard is another impressive 2017 from this team, revealing a deep purple hue as well as loads of blackcurrant and black cherry fruit intermixed with plenty of chocolate, graphite, and roasted herb aromas and flavors. Full-bodied and concentrated, with impressive balance, notable tannins, and a solid spine of acidity, drink it any time over the coming 15 years.
Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine, August 2020
Aromatically the richest of the 2017 Janzen trio if by just a bit, the Cloudy’s Vineyard bottling sports a distinctive mocha-like aspect and lots of loam soil smells in league with its ample, fully ripe, blackcurrant fruit and liberal complement of creamy oak. It is full and supple in feel with particularly fine-grained tannins affording back-palate firmness without pushing it toward puckery astringency, and, while a Cabernet that ideally wants another half-dozen years of age, it is surprisingly easy to access in its youth.
