2023 Janzen Cloudy’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

$185.00

Planted in 1999, Cloudy’s vineyard sits on the steepest part of our estate hidden high up in the Vaca Mountains. The rocky terrain and northwest facing exposure help us produce wines of exceptional quality and structure. 2023 blessed us with what will surely become one of our most celebrated vintages. Napa Valley experienced its longest growing season in over a decade, with mild, consistent temperatures that allowed for extended hang time and generous yields.

In the glass, aromatics notes of sweet oak, baking spices and blueberry pie are manifest. The palate is filled with ripe blackberry jam, mocha, crème de cassis and spicy, toasty oak flavors. This full-bodied Cabernet is a real blast of enjoyment. It is supple and round with a lovely texture and tannins that are sweet and refined.

Cloudy’s Vineyard lies on Dutch Henry Canyon Road, just south of Calistoga, near Blue Line Vineyard, a source for Hourglass and Switchback. Just 1 hectare of vines is situated on a northwest-facing hillside of rocky volcanic, tufa and fractured shale soils. The wine is aged for 28 months in 100% new French oak. Always full-flavoured, it offers satiny dark berry fruit supported by a solid foundation of tightly knit tannins, with a hint of cool redwood grove spice and black tea-like nuances on the finish. Quite enticing. Claus Janzen, the founder, is from Canada. Kyle Janzen, the second generation, serves as co-owner and general manager. Kirk Venge began making the wines for Bacio Divino in 2003; the name means ‘Divine Kiss’ in Italian. Drinking Window: 2026 - 2036 .- Jonathan Cristaldi
